The New Spanish Films program presents the work of three young artists, the Spanish-Venezuelan Elena Duque, the Venezuelan living in Spain Valentina Alvarado Matos, and the Spaniard Jorge Suárez-Quiñones Rivas who filmed many of his works in Japan.
In recent years, Spain has been gathering many enthusiasts, paying special attention to experimental cinema and analogue formats of creation and exhibition. Film magazines, critics, experimental festivals, alternative exhibitors, programmers, cinematheques, galleries, creative and teaching laboratories investigate and present other possible histories of cinema that do not marginalize alternative forms of expression, also consolidating an environment in which production by analogue means is possible.
We propose to observe Spain as a space of transit, based on films, artists and cameras that move around. Three emerging filmmakers who share a passion for analogue formats (especially Super 8), but who present very distinct and personal ways of making films, in which practice and experimentation are conditions of expression, resulting in the creation and discovery of different procedures and simple forms.
