“Night Illuminations” is an expanded cinema performance that aims to create an environment of immersion and expansion of consciousness through an audiovisual experience. With images made directly on 16mm film, the work harks back to the origins of cinema and the primordial ecstasy experienced with moving images.
The work appeals to the essential aspects of the cinematic experience, where images do not require a film camera and are created by the continuous succession of drawings on the film. “Night Illuminations” recognizes the unexpected and mysterious that is always present in the cinematic experience, this kind of intoxication that the materiality of cinema, in the permanent rotation of the film through the toothed gears of the filming or projection machines, communicates directly to the brain.
The installation aims to combine an original sound environment with film images that dialogue with abstraction and indigenous geometries, creating a trance-like atmosphere capable of shaking the viewer.
