Geraldo Sarno

Geraldo Sarno was born on March 6, 1938, in Poções (BA), and made his film debut with the documentary “Viramundo” (1965), which won awards in Brazil and abroad, including the Grand Prix at the Évian Festival in France in 1966, with a jury presided over by Joris Ivens. In the 1960s and 1970s, he made several documentaries in the backlands of Brazil, such as “Viva Cariri” (1969), shown at the Directors’ Fortnight. He directed “Casa Grande e Senzala” (1974), “Segunda-feira” (1974), “Espaço Sagrado” (1976) and “Iaô” (1976), among others. He also worked on fiction, such as “Coronel Delmiro Gouveia” (1978), selected for the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. His most recent works in cinema are “Tudo Isto me Parece um Sonho” (2008), awarded with the Candango for Best Direction and Screenplay at the Brasília Festival of Brazilian Cinema, and “O Último Romance de Balzac” (2010), which received the special jury prize at the Gramado Festival.
