My Mexican Pretzel opens with black-and-white clips of pilots during World War II in Switzerland, subtitled with excerpts from Vivian Barrett’s diary. She tells the story of herself and her husband, Léon, who lost part of his hearing in a plane crash and was unable to fly again. The couple’s charming life unfolds through excerpts from the diary and footage taken by Léon, who we also learn developed a successful antidepressant and had an obsession with many different forms of transportation.
