How can we create a portrait of Jean-Luc Godard, or rather a portrait of his methodology, his universe, his way of constructing or deconstructing cinema, that is worthy of his audacity and cinematic genius? How could it be otherwise than by taking risks and experimenting with equally radical methods, without ever straying from his example. The two directors immerse us in the warehouse to which all of Godard’s archives were transferred in Switzerland in 2010, and create a doppelganger (or duplicate) of the director, who takes on the role of guide in his world. Excerpts from his writings, his images, his perspective on cinema give us an insight into his mythology, his techniques, his unique perspective and, therefore, his vision of the world. His questions, his tireless experimentation in cinema and the nature of creation are presented here as being truly prolific and still relevant, while being intrinsically intertwined in a cinematic essay that we are sure even Godard himself would have appreciated.
