The video “Climate_Change” is an artwork that visualizes data.
Data provides us with a wealth of information. As an artistic expression, Kayoko Nakamura created an artwork using climate change datasets. By viewing the data from a completely different angle, the data tells a new story.
She converted the Excel and CSV spreadsheet datasets into images and added motion to create animated videos. Some audio was also converted from the data and used as sound. For the sound of the video, she designed the sound to resemble a human being in a boat on Earth and added the voices of wind, water, fire, and insects to represent the entire forest on Earth. If climate change suffers a significant collapse, the boat we are on could capsize. She wanted to express a part of the bigger story that the numbers in the data tell.
