The journey of a dream begins with a promise: the largest urban intervention project in Latin America. “Linha Amarela” seeks to question the concept of progress, with its ethical and aesthetic implications, based on a study of the expressway in Rio de Janeiro. The film explores the contrasts between the expectation of a pharaonic project and the unequal and violent reality of a failed city project. The light and documentary collages weave the enchantment of the possibility of a future guided by the ideals of civilization: cars, machines and fuels. The expressway is like salvation, the yellow of light and wealth. However, contemporary news stories are added to the different images, mixing fact and fantasy in this dystopia of reality. Narrated by shadows and reflections, the film experiences the daydream and frenzy of a confusing and contradictory idealization. In which direction does progress take us?
