“Spectral Frequency of the Rainbow” (2021) is about creating an experience similar to a certain type of synesthesia, as if all shades of color were emerging, emerging and piercing the darkness to the accompaniment of a soundtrack.

Synesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which the stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. The first recorded case of synesthesia is attributed to the philosopher John Locke, who in 1690 reported on a blind man who claimed to have experienced the color scarlet when he heard the sound of a trumpet.

Kandinsky’s book Concerning the Spiritual in Art (1911) had a profound effect on the development of abstract painting and hand-drawn cinema. Kandinsky argued that color is related to a series of finely tuned emotional vibrations and touted a principle of “inner necessity” that gives rise to true artistic expression: “The artist is the hand that intentionally makes the soul vibrate by this or that key. Thus it becomes clear that the harmony of colors can only be based on the principle of intentionally touching the human soul.”
