Helena Lessa
Helena Lessa has experience in the field of arts, with an emphasis on cinema and audiovisual, visual arts, design and illustration. She has a master's degree in Visual Languages from the visual arts course at EBA-UFRJ with the project “Rio Carioca: água corrente, rumor” (2022), and a bachelor's degree in Cinema and audiovisual from UFF. She was part of the audiovisual, illustration and comics collective “Osso Osso” (2014-2019), creating design, animation and illustration pieces, as well as directing and producing a series of films in different roles: direction, photography, art, editing, casting. She co-directed and photographed the feature film “Buraco Negro” (dir: Helena Lessa and Petrus de Bairros, 2018), shown at the 17th Mostra do Filme Livre, at the Ecrã Festival and at the online Mostra Contos de Natal, curated by Luís Fernando Moura (2021); and the short films Roques de Quarto (dir: Helena Lessa, Jorge Polo, Lívia de Paiva, Lucas Andrade and Petrus de Bairros, 2017), which received an award from Edital Elipse, with acquisition by Canal Brasil (2016); and Hiperselva (dir: Helena Lessa, Jorge Polo, Lucas Andrade and Pedro Lessa, 2014), awarded at MOV-I, the Pernambuco International University Film Festival (2017). Among her more recent works, she was one of the directors of photography for the feature film “Canto dos Ossos” (dir: Jorge Polo and Petrus de Bairros, 2020), awarded at Mostra Aurora de Tiradentes (2020); she was the art director for “As muitos mortes de Antonio Parreiras” (dir: Lucas Parente), selected for the Conexão Brasil CineMundi finishing laboratory in Tiradentes (2023); she was the editor of the short documentary “Teta Funk” (dir: Lara Pazini, 2023), the music video “Não senta não” (2020), by Lucía Santalices, and a series of music videos by the musician Vitor Wutzki: “Nuvens” (2020), “Titanic” (2021), “Nomes de hidrágua” (2021). Between 2019 and 2020, she was part of the management of the group “Cinemar”, together with Cezar Migliorin, developing practices situated at the intersection between cinema and clinical, in the space of Casa Jangada. He was also responsible for creating design, animation and illustration pieces for films such as “Bicho” (dir: Ian Capillé, 2021), “Boca de Loba” (dir: Bárbara Cabeça, 2018), “Adeus às coisas” (dir: Ian Schuler, 2019), “Embalagem Plástica” (dir: Ian Schuler, 2023), as well as for the web series “Bulbassaura Maravilha” (dir: Gabriela Giffoni and Ian Capillé, 2019), among others.
