Mauricio Chades

Maurício Chades is an artist and filmmaker originally from Gilbués, Piauí. He holds a BA in Audiovisual and a Master’s in Art and Technology from the University of Brasília, as well as a Master’s in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In Brasília, he participated in the collectives Espaço AVI, Kinofogo Cineclube, and NINHO – Coletivo de Pesquisa em Arte, Interatividade e Agroecologia. His work, which includes film, installation, sculpture, and performance, has speculated on symbiotic, queer, and anticolonial futures. Through fiction, he attempts to blur the boundaries between city, countryside, and forest. Envisioning syntropic environments and multi-species alliances, his artistic practice combines storytelling with restorative agriculture, composting, and fungiculture. His works have been shown at national and international film festivals and exhibitions, such as Mostra de Cinema de Tiradentes, Olhar de Cinema, Queer Lisboa, and FILE – International Electronic Language Festival. In 2019, his first solo exhibition, Pirâmide, Urubu, premiered at the Digital TV Tower in Brasília, a project awarded with the Frankenthaler Climate Art Awards in 2022. Currently, Maurício is a visiting artist at Metabolic Studio in Los Angeles and will participate in the 40th Videobrasil Biennial.
