Amanda & Isadora present their “Theory of Unification of Bodies”, a silent video from 2021. The duo uses the clash of their bodies to present a temporal condition, where virtuality is not characterized as something new, but a contemporary banality. In the Post-Internet era, digital art can no longer be distinguished as strictly computer/internet-based, but rather identified as any type of art that is in some way influenced by these virtual organisms. It is the result of the contemporary moment: inherently due to the omnipresence of authorship, the development of attention as a currency of exchange, the collapse of physical space in network culture and the infinite reproducibility and mutability of digital materials.
With lost images displaced from context, Amanda & Isadora procedurally evidence an archival impulse. By selecting the photos for Theory of Unification of Bodies, they attempt to rescue the memory of the internet, using small fragments of this digital universe. When working on this reconstruction, not as a totalization of actions, but with lost elements that evoke aura, the artists perceive the functioning of their bodily connections as the displacement of virtual information.

Amanda & Isadora

Amanda & Isadora are a duo of artists from Rio de Janeiro who have been working together since 2019. Graduates in Visual Arts from UFRJ, their practice examines the social dynamics implicit in the physical and virtual spaces in which they circulate. They produce works in various formats, applying practices of recontextualization of discourses, techniques and images. As they explore image-based processes of translating reality, they present works informed by the mechanisms of legitimization of the contemporary art circuit. They have already participated in some collective exhibitions, such as the VIII EBA Biennial in Parque Lage, and have just held their first solo exhibition “Eu Já Acreditei na Ficção” at LabProa.
