Yersinia Pestis is the name of the bacteria that causes the bubonic plague, a disease that has caused several epidemics throughout history and caused the greatest health crisis the modern world has ever seen, devastating part of the population of Europe. This video, recorded in the historic city of Rio de Janeiro, was also the scene of the bubonic plague epidemic in the early 19th century. The video reflects the feeling of dehumanization in the face of the pandemic we are facing today, especially from the point of view of Brazil, where the country's highest authority is working in the opposite direction of global efforts to combat the spread of the disease. It is a tribute to the scientific community, whose studies are increasingly threatened by distortion and false information being spread en masse. To the sound of "Swan Lake", Yersinia disrupts the prevailing order of classical ballet and anarchizes its physicality and spatial organization, embodying chaos and fear, sensations that are very present during this situation of collective emergency.
Its theme is a denunciation of the health situation that the world has been facing since March 2020, when the World Health Organization declared the Covid-19 pandemic, and a tribute to the scientific community and its search for answers that ensure the health of the world's population, especially since the bubonic plague epidemic that ravaged Europe. The use of the mask makes direct allusion to the "plague doctors" and, by limiting the interpreter's vision, challenges the body's axis and balance, stimulates greater auditory perception and expands the possibilities of relating to space.
