Short Film
Inspired by Joan of Castile (1479-1555) and her life spent in mourning and isolation, Anastatica explores ambiguous mental and physical conditions under institutional concepts of control and oppression through an expressive cinematic form shot on Super 8mm film. In an improvised performance distinguished by a strong sense of space and design, integrating lighting, costume and architecture, the film creates surreal worlds between life and death, dream and poetry.

Juana Robles

"Juana Robles (b. Tortosa, Spain 1983) is an experimental filmmaker based in Askeaton, Ireland. The need to engage with all kinds of human aspects and conditions, together with an affinity with the materiality of the analogue film medium, are the creative ground for her projects.
Part of her practice and main interest is to make experimental cinema more accessible to the public and to enhance the development of experimental forms of film and video. Between 2015 and 2018 she worked at the Videoex International Experimental Film Festival and Videocompany, Switzerland. From 2018 to 2021 she worked at the Lausanne Underground Film Festival (LUFF), Switzerland, as a programmer.
Having grown up in Switzerland, she holds an MA in Spatial Design from the University of the Arts, Zurich (2014) as well as a BA in Visual Communication from the School of Art and Design, Lucerne (2008) and attended three semesters of a specialist training class for camera, film editing and design at Studio 1 Film School in Schlieren (2016). In 2013 she was awarded an interdisciplinary residency at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in Beijing.
