Bathed in the unearthly glow of the late afternoon sun and set against a noisy highway, Exchange depicts the melancholy and isolation of a small working-class neighborhood on the outskirts of Montreal. Selected for the Berlin Film Festival.

Brian M. Cassidy and Melanie Shatzky’s films have screened at the Berlin, Sundance, Toronto, Locarno and Rotterdam Film Festivals, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Civilization, the ICA London, the Museum of the Moving Image and Lincoln Center. In 2012, they were nominated for the Gotham Award for Breakthrough Director and won the Best New Director from Quebec/Canada award at the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM). Their feature debut, Francine, starring Academy Award winner Melissa Leo, was called “raw, intimate and keenly observed” by The Hollywood Reporter and was chosen as the New York Times Film Critics’ Film of the Year. Their documentary, The Patron Saints, was called “one of the most powerful Canadian documentaries in recent years” by POV Magazine.
