(IKB) - BODY IMPRESSION IN NATURE
(IKB) - BODY PRINT INTO LANDSCAPE

The piece is a reference to Yves Klein’s work Anthropometria, in which the artist used naked women as ‘human paintbrushes’, creating paintings that were the result of elaborate performances in front of an audience. For Klein, the female figure was the canon of human proportion, an anthropometric symbol that he described as “the most concentrated expression of life energy imaginable”. The same blue colour used by him (International Klein Blue IKB) is used by Marcy Petit when she too becomes a human paintbrush. However, this video is also critical of Klein’s action. In contrast to her work, this project is carried out without any audience. By using her own body in a natural landscape and leaving her mark on natural objects, Marcy Petit is empowering herself as both her own model and her own paintbrush. The result may then no longer be related to Klein’s concept of ‘the ideal’, but to female empowerment.

Marcy Petit

Marcy Petit is a French artist, living and working between France and England.
As a young mixed-media artist, she pursues an interdisciplinary visual work. Videos, photographs, performances, sound recordings, installations, textile... compose a multidisciplinary practice.
Thanks to one of her teacher, Bertrand Clavez, she also first developed a practice oriented to the “performing action” during her studies at the University of Rennes (FR). This artistic medium represents an important part of her artistic work by using her own body as a medium in her work and in performances.
The artworks of Marcy Petit seek to talk mainly about the representation of the feminine body in our society and feminist concerns and issues. She has therefore generated a series of works making a stance that is feminine, feminist, sometimes ironic and political.
She also works around the notion of relational art, seeking to give voice to the “normal” or “seemingly ordinary” people around her.
The observation and reflection of landscapes and territories are also two important notions in her work since an artistic residency in Spain. From that experience, she is currently working on a series of new projects around the representation of natural environments, landscapes and natural prints.
