Language and body language are the intricate threads that weave our identities together. They unravel our stories, revealing the depths of our past and the essence of our being. “anata-mɛ” (“you-you” in Japanese and Gbaya, a language of the Central African Republic) delves into this tapestry, unraveling not only our individual identities but also the legacies we carry forward. Through language, spoken and unspoken, we inherit cultural nuances, values, and emotions. It is not just communication; it is a transmission of heritage and connection. Every word spoken, every gesture made, forms bridges between souls, carrying the weight of our experiences and the warmth of our shared humanity.

Julienne Doko, Kyrie Oda

Julienne Doko is a French dancer, teacher and choreographer with roots in the Central African Republic who lives in Copenhagen, Denmark. She has trained in various styles in France, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Denmark and Senegal. Her postgraduate studies took her to various places where she discovered and explored different styles of traditional and contemporary dance (samba, traditional West African dances, Afro-contemporary, Afro-Brazilian and modern dance), as well as ballet, jazz and hip hop. Since 2002, Julienne has performed with various companies, in festivals, TV shows and musicals. She has been teaching dance styles such as traditional West African dance, hip hop, samba and contemporary dance since 2006. In her dance practice, Julienne explores connections between different dance styles and uses contemporary dance as a space for hybridization, a vehicle for synergy between dance techniques and expressions. Her movement and dramaturgy are inspired by her homeland and the travels she has made between them. Julienne also explores the medium of video and has produced and choreographed several dance videos. Both her stage and video work have been shown internationally.

Kyrie Oda: Kyrie began her career as a dancer in New York. There she worked with the Michael Mao Dance Company and the H.T Chen Dance Company. She then returned to her home country of Japan, where she worked as a freelancer and began her own choreographic work, which has been performed in Buddhist temples and art halls.

She has been living in Europe since 2012. She was a dancer with the Aura Dance Theatre in Lithuania from 2012 to 2016. Here she had the opportunity to choreograph several works for the ensemble. Later she danced with Regionteater Väst and toured works for children and young people. There she was also able to present her own choreographic work within the company. As a freelance dancer, Kyrie has performed with Kitt Johnson X-ACT (DK), Nønne Svanholm (DK), Tino Sehgal (DE) and in Sweden with Iraqi Bodies, Embla Dance and Theatre, Patrik Sörling, Gun Lund and Eva Ingemarsson among others.
Kyrie is educated at Belhaven University in the United States. www.p-a-x.org
